About Metallica

James Hetfield: One of the founding members of Metallica, James Hetfield is known as one of heavy metal’s most distinguishable voices. Indeed, it is hard to imagine anyone else doing those killer growls that Hetfield has become associated with through such tracks as “Enter Sandman” and “One.” Hetfield, a fan of vintage guitars (he has a huge collection of guitars manufactured in 1963, the year of his birth), endorses ESP guitars.

Lars Ulrich: The other founder of Metallica, Ulrich was born in Denmark to a wealthy family who encouraged his interest in music from an early age. His father played in a jazz band himself, and would buy young Lars his own drum kit at the age of thirteen – four years after taking him to see Deep Purple, which was a definitive experience in the young Ulrich’s musical education. Ulrich is an endorser of Tama drums.

Kirk Hammett: After Dave Mustaine left Metallica to form thrash metal stalwarts Megadeth in the early ‘80s, the band found an apt replacement in the young Kirk Hammett, who was a student of Joe Satriani at the time. Hammett credits Jimi Hendrix with being a major influence on his development as a guitarist – and anyone who has heard Hammett bust out one of his famous trademark wah wah solos will see why he is widely considered to be one of the best living guitarists out there.

Rob Trujillo: The newest member of Metallica, Rob Trujillo was brought on board to replace Jason Newsted in the year 2005. Trujillo previously played in the bands Suicidal Tendencies and Infectious Grooves. He is perhaps best known, however, for being a member of Ozzy Osbourne’s band for many years. Ironically, after Newsted left Metallica, he was immediately hired by Osbourne to take the departing Trujillo’s place!
